Section 1: Getting Started

To start The Geek Dictionary, tap its icon in the launcher. It will display Loading... while it loads the terms. When it finishes loading, you will be taken to the main screen (the "All" tab). From here, you can:

1) Do a search by typing in search terms. Notice the list will automatically upate to reflect your search.
2) Scroll the list with Up/Down buttons, Jog Dial (Sony CLIEs), or 5-way navigator (PalmOne products).
3) View a definition by tapping on a term.
5)Go to a specific category by tapping the relevant tab. Notice the list becomes longer and the search box disappears.

Section 2: Main Form Menu Options

You can access The Geek Dictionary's menu by tapping the blue tab with the caption "The Geek Dictionary" at the top of the screen. If you are in Full-Screen mode, tap the menu button on your Palm (located in different places for different handhelds. See your user manual's for more). The following are the menu items you can access:

1) Toggle Full-Screen: Under Options>>Toggle Fullscreen. See the section on Full-Screen for how this option works.
2) Register: Under Options>>Register. Self-explanatory, this option allows you to void the 15 run limit. To register, go to PalmGear.com
3) About: Under Help>>About. The About screen is common in Palm applications, and contains general info on who the app was made by, etc.... Not too important.
4) Help: Under Help>>Help. The Help menu is a very annotated version of this, giving you just a few quick pointers on how to do things. Aside from that, every screen besides the main screen has a little "i" in the top left hand corner that has more info about how to use its particular functions.

Section 3: Definition Display Screen

To view a definition, tap the term you want to view on the main screen. A new screen will popup with the term, the definition, and a close button. If you clicked on the term in the All tab, then you'll also see one or two other terms that are related to one you're looking at. From here, you can:

1) Read the definition.
2) Tap a link to go to another definition.
3) View the menu on the display form. There is only one item. Going to Info>>Category will tell you which category (General, Net, Advanced, Miscellaneous) the term belongs to.
4) Click the close button, which will take you back to the main form.

Section 4: Full-Screen Mode/Hi-Res+/High Density

The Geek Dictionary supports two different things which seem similar from their description: Hi-Res+/High Density (the same thing) and Full-Screen mode. Here is a small overview of how each works:

Hi-Res+/High Density: This is when a Palm handheld supports an unusually long screen (320 x 480) or wide screen (480 x 320). This allows more to be displayed on screen at a time than usual. Such devices that use this technology are Sony CLIEs (models NR, NX, NZ, UX, and TH), and PalmOne's Tungsten 3. The Geek Dictionary supports this technology, resizing the term list and definitions to take advantage of the extra space.

Full-Screen mode: This is totally unique to The Geek Dictionary. ANY Palm running OS 3.5 or higher can use it, regardless of whether it's Hi-Res+/High Density or not! What it does is it gets rid of the blue tab at the top of the screen (caption: "The Geek Dictionary") and moves/resizes everything to take up the extra space. Full-Screen mode can be toggled on/off by going to Options>>Toggle Fullscreen in the main screen's menu.
